Shopmobility Stockport offers equipment that can be used by people to get around to shop and visit local facilities and attractions. These can include the use of wheelchairs and scooters (both manual and powered), and sighted guides for those with poor or no visibility or limited mobility.
The equipment provided by Shopmobility is there for people of all ages. You do not have to be a resident to use the equipment. Visitors to Stockport can also use it. Likewise, you do not need to have a long-term condition to use it, people who are unwell for a short period of time can benefit from using the equipment too. You do not need to reserve the use of wheelchairs or scooters prior to their use, but if you do this will ensure you can be met at the train or bus station with the wheelchair or scooter if needed.
You will need to register to use Shopmobility powerchairs, scooters or sighted guides. It is advisable to make an appointment. Registration will take around 30 minutes. You can become a Temporary Member for one year for £15. There is a £5 hire charge.
You can hire manual wheelchairs on a daily basis or long term without the need to register. To do this you would need to provide photo identification and one item of identification proving your name and address. This would need to be dated within the previous three months. Alternatively, you can provide identification and a £100 deposit.
