Concessionary Travel Pass

Travel passThis is a scheme which provides free or reduced fares on buses in England, and trains and trams within Greater Manchester.

Who can apply for a pass?

You can apply for a pass if you qualify for a state pension or you have a disability.

Concessionary passes or travel schemes are also available for school aged children, and young people aged 16 to 19. Details of these may be found on the TFGM website here: https://www.tfgm.com/tickets-and-passes/apply-for-a-new-pass

Passes for people aged 60 and over - National Concessionary Travel pass for older people

This provides free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England, and on trains and Metrolink trams within Greater Manchester.

Passes for people with a disability

There are two types of passes:
- the National Concessionary Travel pass
- the National Concessionary Plus Travel pass

Depending on your disability, you could qualify for either a Travel pass or a Plus Travel pass.

The National Concessionary Travel pass from TfGM
With the standard concessionary pass from TfGM, you can travel free on buses, trains and trams in Greater Manchester and to some nearby towns during off-peak hours. You also travel free on buses anywhere in England during off-peak hours.

The National Concessionary Plus Travel pass from TfGM
With a National Concessionary Plus Travel pass from TfGM, you travel free by bus, train or tram on any day at any time in Greater Manchester. You also travel free on buses anywhere in England during off-peak hours.

How to apply

To apply for any of the passes you will need to fill in and send an application form.

You can:

  • Download the form from TFGM
  • Pick one up from Stockport Bus Station or any other Transport for Greater Manchester Travelshop (details of all travelshops here)
  • Request one by phoning 0161 244 1050
  • Request one by writing to:

Renewing your pass

TFGM should contact you with instructions on how to renew your pass six weeks before it expires.
