The Big Boat
The Big Boat is a specially built 70 feet long canal boat, moored on the Peak Forest Canal and available now for hire.
Much more than a canal boat, the Big Boat is a place of
rest and relaxation, with the chance to take part in a range of
health and wellbeing activities from complementary therapies to art
and craft sessions.
The Big Boat is a Healthy Living Centre on water, and is run by
the Big Life Centres charity. It is moored at Lord Vernon's Wharf
in Marple, cruising five routes along the Peak Forest and
Macclesfield Canals. It can be hired for the day, weekend or week
and is driven by a qualified canal boat skipper. There are a whole
variety of days the boat can be hired for - by voluntary or
community groups who would like a day out with a difference or by
people wanting to celebrate a special occasion.
With room for up to 12 passengers, the boat has a galley
kitchen, sound system, heating, colour changing lights and disabled
access toilet. If you are interested in hiring the Big Boat please
phone 0777 562 3798.
The Big Boat project was commissioned by Stockport Council and built by a Stockport boat builder; it is a Big Life Centre and part of the Big Life group of social businesses and charities.
