List of disability trained taxi drivers

If you need assistance to travel by taxi you may decide to ring one of the many local taxi drivers who have undergone Stockport Council's disability awareness training.

These are some of the things you should ask or let the driver know when you book:

• Date and time you want your lift.
• The place that you want the driver to pick you up from and the place that you want them to take you to.
• Let them know if you will need help from the driver to get to and from and/or in and out of the car.
• Ask how much will your lift cost.
• Ask what the car will look like and the name of the driver.
• If you have a wheelchair, let the driver know what kind it is.
• Tell them how many people and/or children will be travelling with you.
• If you have an assistance dog travelling with you, confirm that the driver is able to carry it too. Unless the driver has an current exemption certificate, they must transport your dog.
• Offer a contact phone number if possible. If there is a problem in supplying your vehicle on time the driver will contact you.
• The operator or driver should confirm with you the details of your booking back to you to ensure it has been recorded accurately. If they don't do this, ask them to.
• Make a note somewhere to remind you of who you have booked the lift with, the telephone number and the time and date it will arrive.
