Keeping warm
In Stockport, an estimated 20,000 properties do not reach the current standard of being adequately heated and this can affect people's general health and wellbeing.
The Council has a wide range of services, advice and support
available to anybody who needs help with heating their home or
staying fit and well during the winter.
Stockport's Kill the Chill Campaign
This has been launched to inform Stockport's communities about
the growing problem of keeping warm in winter and how to overcome
the rising costs of electricity and gas in the current economic
climate. It provides information and advice on heating your home,
managing the money and keeping warm.

AWARM (Affordable Warmth Access and Referral Mechanism)
This helps vulnerable households in getting help and advice
to keep warm in their homes, by improving warmth in homes,
maximising people's income and providing debt advice, fire safety
checks, home repairs and security.

Handy Help Service
If you are aged 50 and over, Age Concern Stockport's Handy Help
Service can give you information about local tradesmen who can
install energy saving measures that will help you to stay warm at
home and also help to reduce your fuel bills. They can help with
minor repairs, installing smoke alarms and
changing batteries etc. The service is free but they will ask
for a small administrative fee.
