Hate crime

There is support available to help you keep safe in the community.

Hate Crime

Hate crimes are any crimes that are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person's:

  • disability
  • race or ethnicity
  • religion or belief
  • sexual orientation
  • transgender identity.

This can be committed against a person or property and anyone could be a victim of a hate crime.

If you feel that you are being targeted in this way, or you are a witness or just know of somethimg happening, then you should report the incident to the Police and they will deal with it. Hate incidents and crimes can have a damaging effect on people and on local communities and need to be reported so that others can be protected.

Reporting makes a difference - to you, your friends, and your community. By reporting hate crime when it happens, you can help stop it happening to someone else. You will also help the Police to better understand the level of hate crime in your local area and to improve the way they respond to it.
