Claiming benefits

Stockport Council's Welfare Rights Service, part of Stockport Advice, will give you free, independent advice on how to claim benefits.

They will help you understand which benefits you are entitled to claim and explain how you can appeal if you think decisions made about your benefit are not correct. This service includes confidential benefit checks and help filling in forms for all the benefits listed.

  • Income Support
  • Incapacity Benefit or Employment and Support Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance
  • Jobseekers Allowance or Pension Credit
  • Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefits
  • Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit
  • Carers Allowance or Carers Premium,

To make sure you get the right advice, you will need to give some information about your home and family circumstances, your income and savings and any disabilities you and your family have. Home visits are available for people who are unable to get out and about.

Carers Benefits or Allowances

If you are spending time looking after a relative, friend or neighbour then you may be entitled to claim benefits to support you in your caring role. It may be that you are unable to work, or can only work part time, because of the time you are spending and need financial assistance to help you manage. The organisations listed below will be able to offer you free, confidential advice about your benefit entitlement.
