Exercise for health

Becoming more physically active can benefit your general health and can help you to cope better with a number of medical conditions.

PARiS

Physical Activity Referral in Stockport (PARiS) is Stockport's GP Exercise Referral scheme, designed to help people with moderate medical conditions become and stay more physically active. The sheme is a joint partnership between Stockport Council, Life Leisure and NHS Stockport. A team of  experienced health and exercise professionals provide guidance, support and pathways towards health improvement.

  • Do you have diabetes, COPD, stable angina or a high risk of developing cardio-vascular disease?
  • Have you had a heart attack, angioplasty, coronary artery bypass graft or stroke?
  • Do you suffer from anxiety, depression or joint pain?

If you answered YES to any of the above questions then ask your doctor about the PARiS scheme.

The scheme is designed to help you to become more active and stay active. You get free specialist advice on how to build physical activity into your daily routine and one-to-one support to help keep you motivated. Trained staff will work with you to produce a personalised physical activity plan to help you on your way to achieving your health related goals. You will also be entitled to join your chosen Target Fitness+ or Target Fitness centre on a discounted membership scheme. All we ask that you participate in at least three activities a week in order to see improvements in your health.
