Stockport has a whole range of leisure and cultural activities and the opportunities for sports and leisure activities are many and varied.

LIfe Leisure

Life Leisure run local sports, swimming and leisure facilities on behalf of Stockport Council. These include:

  • Swimming pools offering general swim sessions and coaching for all ages. Free swimming for over 60s.
  • Target Fitness centres offering fully equipped gym facilities, saunas, steam rooms and aerobic studios.
  • Indoor sports halls for a range of sporting activities from football to bowling.
  • Squash courts are available seven days a week to members of the public on a pay as you play basis.
  • Outdoor synthetic turf pitches provide a venue for football, hockey, tennis and netball.

Leisure Key

The Leisure Key is Stockport Council's discount card for residents on limited incomes. It opens the door to reduced charges for leisure and cultural activities, such as sports, swimming and theatre. If you have a disability and need support, you can get a free Companion Card that entitles you to take a relative, friend or carer with you at the same discounted rate. Carers can also buy their own card to use independently.

Stockport's Libraries

Visit your local library; you'll be amazed to find out just what you can do! You can borrow books, CDs and DVDs and there are a number of specialist services available including computer access. Call into your local library to find out more. And there's no need to give up on reading just because you can't see to read print. The RNIB's National Library Service, based in Bredbury, provides the UK's largest collection of books for loan in audio, large print and Braille for blind and partially sighted people. Books are delivered by post, free of charge and direct to your door.  

Stockport Tourist Information Centre

Find out what's on in Stockport including information about local accommodation and travel, coach holidays and day trips bookings, theatre and event tickets. Includes information about local attractions such as the Hat Works, Bramall Hall, the Air Raid Shelters, Stockport Museum and Vernon Park, Chadkirk Chapel, the Town Hall and the Art Gallery.
