Shopping and errands

Some people find it difficult to get out and about to do their shopping due to disability, frailty or illness.

If you have no friends or relatives to help you with this you could try shopping on line with the supermarket of your choice and they will deliver your shopping direct to your door. Some local shops will also deliver to your home but you would need to telephone them directly to see if they offer this service.

Local help

Age UK Stockport have a service called Easy Shop for local people, usually with a health need or disability, who are aged 50 and over and have difficulty shopping for essential items such as groceries. They work closely with local supermarkets to help ensure a regular, reliable home shopping service for people who are unable to get to the shops themselves. Stockport Care Schemes also offer assistance with shopping and essential errands. They also organise shopping trips but remember to book well in advance.

Frozen Meals

If you are unable to get out to shop for food but you can use a microwave, one way to ensure that you get a hot, nutritious meal is to use frozen foods. Wiltshire Farm Foods or Oak House Foods will deliver frozen ready meals to your door and the delivery staff will even store them away in your freezer for you.

Other help

There are also a number of agencies in Stockport that can provide staff to help you with shopping, but they will charge you for this service and remember to take care to choose one that is registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Follow the link below for more information or visit the CQC website. There are also a number of agencies that can offer you support to live your life in a way that meets your indivudual needs and choices.
