Our work with schools and colleges

Stockport Council want to show young people that choosing a career in the social care work sector can lead to an exciting, challenging and rewarding career.

We work with employers across Stockport's social care sector to provide the following activities to help young people to make an informed choice about future careers in care. We also work closely with teaching staff to provide curriculum support.

Care Ambassadors

Care Ambassadors are social care professionals who visit local schools and colleges to provide presentations to Year 10 students about the various careers in social care. They provide information on the different job roles and the skills, qualities and qualifications needed and so helping them to make an informed choice about a career in care.

Work Experience

Over 16's who want to find out more about social work and social care can apply for work experience. There are a wide range of opportunities available within Stockport Council, working with adults or with children and their families.

Discovery Day

This is an interactive event held once a year for Year 10 students from local schools who are studying GCSE Health & Social Care. Staffed by social care professionals, it provides an opportunity for students to find out more about the wealth of career opportunities in social care.
