Careers in childrens social care
Stockport Council works to safeguard and promote children's welfare in collaboration with other agencies.
Our view is that helping parents and promoting the
upbringing of children in their own families is the best way to
achieve this. We work in partnership with the most vulnerable
families but we will always intervene strongly in matters of child
protection.
Our service incorporate the following main service areas:
- Referral & Assessment Service, including Reception
and Information
The central point of access for all children
and families incoming work providing initial screening, assessments
and referrals.
The team are responsible for the management
of cases within care proceedings; children whose names are on the
Child Protection Register and family support.
Working to meet the needs of 'looked after'
children , the team's role is to see that placements are fully
supported to ensure positive outcomes.
This team offers support and training of
foster carers and adopters, working in close partnership with
carers to develop the service.
There are a number of other specialist teams
which provide support to children and their families. These include
Child Protection, Child and Adolescent Support Team/KITE Project,
Hospital teams, Community Outreach, Family Group Meetings,
Youth Offending Team Education Support Team, Disability Database,
Children's Fund initiatives and Family Centres.
