Who can get it?
Anyone living in Stockport can apply, whether you live in your
own property or are a Council or Housing Association tenant.
However, to work out whether Extra Care Housing would be the
right move to make for your needs to be met, we do need to
carry out a social care assessment.
What is an assessment?
After the assessment we will identify and agree your needs with
you and discuss the help and support available to meet them,
according to the seriousness of your situation.
How much does it cost?
There are four different elements to the overall cost of living
in Extra Care Housing:
- The cost of renting your home and your usual household
bills
- A housing service charge to maintain the shared communal
facilities
- A support charge for the Scheme Manager service
and emergency alarm system
- Any additional charges for the care you may be assessed as
needing.
Can I get help with the cost?
If you have care needs it may be possible for you to get help
with these costs. We will help you fill out a financial assessment
form to see if you qualify for help. Depending on your income
or savings, you may qualify for Housing Benefit or Income Support
and you may also be entitled to exemption from Council Tax.
Is there Extra Care Housing in my area?
There are
currently schemes in the following areas:
- Edgeley - in partnership with Manchester &
District Housing Association at St. Lesmo Court and with Equity
Housing at Runnymede Court.
- Reddish - in partnership with 'Johnnie'
Johnson Housing at Spey House and with Equity Housing at Jubilee
Court.
- Marple - in partnership with Stockport Homes
at Birch Court and 'Johnnie' Johnson Housing at Portland
House.
Each area has a
main scheme where the care staff are based. The care staff also
provide a service to tenants living at a neighbouring scheme which
is in close proximity. They are very popular and often have waiting
lists so we are aiming to provide more Extra Care Housing around
Stockport in the future.
